About the Event
Restorative yoga is a style of hatha yoga designed to relax, restore, and rejuvenate the whole person. This is an amazing antidote to the stress of our modern fast-paced world and builds flexibility, adaptability, and resilience.
This gentle and grounding practice will guide you through three to five asanas (yoga poses) while your body is supported by props such as pillows, bolsters, blankets, and blocks. This quiet yet powerful practice provides plenty of space for silence and meditation.
Each supported pose is held for 5 or more minutes allowing your body to settle in so the mind can focus on breath, healing thoughts, emotions, and sensations. As your sympathetic nervous system down-regulates, your body can focus its energy on growth, repair, immune function, digestion, and other self-nurturing processes. Consistent relaxation practices like this educate your mind and body how to rest in a sense of safety rather than chronic emergency.
All levels are welcome and no previous experience is necessary. Yoga positions may be modified to suit individual needs.
Please wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothing. Practice in a space large enough to lie down. Bring a yoga mat or towel/blanket, 2-3 pillows, bolster or rolled blanket/towel, 2 blocks or thick books. Feel free to bring water to drink. It’s best not to eat a large meal at least 30 minutes prior to class unless medically necessary.
